Edifico de Correos
El edificio de Correos se construyó en el año 1915. Lo construyeron los arquitectos Secundino Ugalde y Eugenio Fernández-Quintanilla. El estilo es regionalista montañés de principios del siglo XX. Está construido en grandes bloques de sillería, con una planta rectangular y un gran hall central. Es un edificio exento; es decir, que a su alrededor no tiene edificios pegados. Se encuentra mirando hacia la Plaza Alfonso XIII, cerca del banco de España, la Plaza Porticada y los Jardines de Pereda. Es conocido por sus buzones con forma de cabeza de León, las cartas se meten por las bocas de los leones. Algunas curiosidades son: que se fue uno de los pocos edificios que se salvó en el incendio de Santander en 1941, las sedes de correos en Santander han ido cambiando a lo largo de la historia debido a la necesidad de ampliar sus instalaciones con el aumento de la población.
The Post
Office Building
The Post office was built in 1915. It was built by the architects Secundino Ugalde y Eugenio Fernández Quintanilla. The style is highlander regionalist from the beginning of the 20th century. It is built in big blocks of ashlar with a rectangular floor and a big central hall. It is an exempt building: it means that it doesn´t have buildings around. It is located opposite Alfonso XIII Square near Banco de España, Porticada Square and Pereda Gardens. It is known for its letterboxes in the shape of a Lion head. The letters are thrown through their mouths. Some curiosities are that it is one of the buildings that escaped from the great fire of Santander in 1941. The Post Office headquarters in Santander have been changing throughout the history owing to the necessity of expanding its installations with the increase in population.
