Catedral de Santander
Desde el principio de los tiempos la actual Catedral de Santander fue conocida como Iglesia de los Cuerpos Santos. Actualmente es denominada Catedral de Santander.
La base de la catedral es otra iglesia, llamada ¨El Cristo¨. El estilo de este lugar es gótico primitivo, aunque actualmente se ha tenido que reformar parte del actual edificio. La primera reforma tuvo lugar en los siglos XVI y XVII mediante la construcción de capillas periféricas, la segunda y más importante, se hizo después de la ruina ocasionada por el incendio que destruyó la ciudad en febrero de 1941.
En el brazo izquierdo del crucero se encuentra la tumba de Marcelino Menéndez Pelayo, un importante escritor cántabro. Debido a la alta influencia de sus escritos, está enterrado junto a un libro y una pluma.
En la catedral se recoge una promesa de la Ciudad de Santander de hace más de 500 años. La promesa consiste en sacar todos los años el 14 de mayo a San Matías Apóstol en procesión y hacer una misa en su honor, al considerar que ayudó a erradicar la peste que asoló la ciudad en 1503.
