Banco Santander
Usted se encuentra en la fachada principal del edificio del Banco Santander o comúnmente conocido como el Arco del Banco Santander. Se encuentra situado en el Paseo Pereda frente a la bahía. La parte trasera del edificio de El Mercado del Este donde se encuentra el Museo de Arqueología y Prehistoria de Cantabria. En 1875 se construyó la parte más antigua del edificio ( la parte derecha ). Su arquitecto fue don Atilano Rodríguez. En 1919 lo adquiere el banco Santander hasta aquel entonces había sido un hotel. Posteriormente el Banco Santander adquiere dos casas contiguas que le permiten agrandar el edificio. Entre 1946 y1950, se realiza la reforma integral diseñada por el arquitecto don Javier González Riancho donde se añade el gran arco sobre la Calle Marcelino Sanz de Santuola, conocida como la calle del Martillo. El edificio es de estilo Neoclásico con 5 plantas. No existe simetría, la parte de la izquierda es la más moderna, tiene una columna de 9 ventanas frente a 8 del lado derecho. La parte superior tiene 4 grandes esculturas del escultor Balnes. En la fachada principal se encuentra un friso que representa a la banca.

You are in the main front of Banco de Santander commonly known as Banco de Santander Arch. It is located in Paseo Pereda opposite the Bay. At the rear of the East Market it is situated the Archeology and Prehistory Museum of Cantabria. In 1875, the oldest part of the building (the right side) was built. Its architect was Mr. Atilano Rodríguez. In 1919, the Banco de Santander bought it. Before that it had been a hotel. After that the bank of Santander bought two old houses that allowed them to make the building bigger. Between 1946 and 1950 the internal renovation was carried out by the architect Mr. Javier González Riancho. This time the big arch over Marcelino Sanz de Sautuola (known as Martillo Street) was added. The building is in Neoclassic style with five floors. Symetry doesn´t exist. The left side is the most modern. It has a column with nine windows compared with the eight ones from the right side. The highest side has four sculptures by Balnes. In the main front there is a frieze that represents the bank.
